The Muslims in Yemen and Nigeria started Ramadan on Saturday, June 28.
Saudi Arabia and most of Middle East started on Sunday, June 29. Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, etc. started fasting on Monday.

Astronomical calculations told us that the EARLIEST SIGHTING of the WAXING CRESCENT Moon of Ramadan 2014 will be possible ONLY on Saturday, June 28 and June 29. The first day of Ramadan was Sunday, June 29, 2014. However, many who strictly follow a LOCAL sighting started fasting from Monday, June 30, as in India, Pakistan, etc.

Please keep in mind that the Earth is a GLOBE (NOT FLAT) and a Hilaal is SEEN in 3-5 evenings. Now look the following map. On the day of the conjunction (June 27, 2014) the Halaal IS NOT SEEN anywhere.

Please keep in mind that a New Moon is not the Hilal of the Qur’an and Sunnah, and an Islamic month CANNOT START from the instant of the CONJUNCTION.

The Muslim Ummah is confused as Ulema and experts with basic knowledge of the lunar visibility rules contradict each other. Most Ulema look for a LOCALLY visible Hilaal, as Ahadith (La Tasuumu Hatta Tara-wul Hilaala..Kuraib’s Hadith point out.

Some quote “LA IBRATA bi ikhtilaaf al-Mataali” opinion, which is in contradiction of a physical reality. Why should a Muslim living in areas where a Hilaal was NOT SEEN despite clear skies must fast?. This position appears to negate LA TASUUMU Hadith.
